St. John the Baptist

St. John the Baptist was accompanied by his disciples, and he was baptizing at the Bethany on the other side of the Jordan. When the Jews of Jerusalem sent the priests and the Levites, they asked him. (Matthew 3:1-12 John 1:19-28).
“Who are you?”
St. John the Baptist declared.
“I am not the Christ.”
They asked him.
“Then who are you? Are you Elijah?”
He replied.
“I am not.”
They asked.
“Are you that prophet?”
He said.
“No.”
They asked again.br> “Then who are you? We have to take back your answer to those who sent me. What do you say about yourself?”
St. John the Baptist replied in the words of St. Isaiah.
“I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord.’ ”
